Description This Thangka depicts Medicine Buddha in the form of the Medicine Guru. He is often believed to heal ailments affecting the body, mind, and speech through meditation. He is also known as the “King of Vaidurya Light” due to his radiant and deep blue form. Medicine Buddha is dressed in red robes and seated in a vajra position on a white moon disc with a lotus flower. He holds a triple-fruited branch of a myrobalan tree, stretching his right hand downwards as a boon-granting gesture. His left hand supports a blue alms bowl of vaidya gemstone containing healing nectar and another myrobalan fruit. The myrobalan fruit, also known as Skt. Arura is a key element in his healing practices and is considered the “King of Medicines” in Tibetan and Indian Ayurvedic medical traditions. Gems of various colours are placed as offerings in the lower corners.
