Description Gyalwa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, the 16th Karmapa, was an important figure in Tibetan Buddhism known for his spiritual insight and empathy. Born in Denkhog, Denge, he was raised by Kelzang Dolma and Tsewang Phuntsok. His mother chose to give birth in a sacred cave, and after a mysterious day-long disappearance from her womb, the child was recognized by His Eminence Tai Situpa as the reincarnation of the 15th Karmapa. At the age of 8, he received Bodhisattva vows and was formally honoured with the Black Vajra Crown and traditional Karmapa robes. During his journey to the enthronement at Palpung, he stopped at the Derge Monastic Publishing House, paving the way for distributing Buddhist texts in India. He was accompanied by Tai Situ Rinpoche to Tsurphu, where he was welcomed by other significant Buddhist figures.
